Key Stage 4
Adventurous Outdoor Activity and Team Challenge Residentials
We welcome students from Year 10 and Year 11 to Deneholme in Allendale near Hexham in the heart of Northumberland. A year of important exams, GCSEs amongst others sees a lot of stress and pressure on students. What better time than this to take them away from the school environment and give all young people the opportunities to release anxieties, experience success as individuals and as a team and generally learn effectively outside the classroom.

Adventurous outdoor activity residentials can be invaluable in assisting the pupils in the important transition from primary to secondary education. Our programmes can help pupils build new relationships, foster team spirit and recognise their individual strengths. This will help significantly back in the school environment - a shared adventure and positive team experieince.

National Curriculum:
An adventuous outdoor activity residential with team and individual development aspects serves the key stage 4 National Curriculum on many levels:
- PE: Competence (Adapting to a widening range of familiar and unfamiliar contexts.), Creativity (Using imaginative ways to express and communicate ideas, solve problems and overcome challenges. ) Healthy Lifestyle (Recognising that regular physical activity that is fit for purpose, safe and enjoyable has the greatest impact on physical, mental and social wellbeing.)
- Citizenship: Democracy and Justice (Participating actively in different kinds of decision-making and voting in order to influence public life)
- Personal Wellbeing: Almost every espect of the NC topic "Personal Wellbeing" can be adressed during our residentials. Personal identities, healthy lifestyles, risks, relationships and divercity.
- Other subjects than can be integrated into our activities are: History (abseiling at Hadrian's Wall, Hadrian's Treasure Hunt, Mining in the North Pennines), Geology (rock climbing on different rock types, canoeing and ghyll scrambling, mining & caving), Geography (navigational treasure hunts, route planning in mountain biking, search and rescue scenarios, national navigators award).
