Adventurous Outdoor Activity and Team Challenge Residentials

Adventure Outdoor Activities provide tremendous benefits for children with special needs. Physical adventure residentials can considerably improve the lifestyle of a disabled child and are highly recommended. Our residentials may help control obesity, promote activeness, increase a child’s self-image and social skills, and increase motivation. (All this can be kick started during our residentials or reinforced from what is taught at school, but needs continuous input and support back in their normal living situation.)

Physical Improvements - Children suffering from cognitive disabilities are most likely going to suffer from physical impairments as well. These children have substantial problems with motor skills.
Self-Esteem - Developing a sense of self-esteem and confidence is an extremely important part of special education. These children need to be involved in environments where they feel that they are contributing successfully to a group. Their abilities in all other skill areas will improve as a result of a positive self-image and confidence.
Cognitive Benefits - The hands-on aspect of outdoor activities lead to cognitive skill improvement
in children with disabilities and allows them to discover and access strengths that cannot be challenged in the traditional classroom setting. The inherent structure of "adventure activities", with its organisation and instructions, can be used as a learning tool for introducing and practicing selfregulation and decision making skills. Additionally, children can learn verbal communication and interaction with peers through involvement in our teambuilding and practical problem solving tasks.

At Deneholme, we have had a group of visually impaired young people ghyll scrambling and waterfall jumping, autistic children learn how to climb a tree and abseil down, children with ADHD take part in practical problem solving activities and young people with eating disorders completed a half day fell walk. We do have a lift to all floor levels and two fully accessible bathrooms/bedrooms.

Remmeber, when you book a residential at Deneholme, you will be the only group on site, and have full, exclusive use of the grounds and all facilities.
